I don't know what's going on with me. I'm depressed all the time, I feel like curling up and dying in hole somewhere. I cry constantly, the little-est thing sets me off. I'm very anti-social, and I perfer to stay by myself. I can't sleep and things just don't seem fun anymore. It all started when my best friend stopped to talking to me, and I started feeling fat and lifeless.

I've tried losing weight, smiling a lot, even seeing a therapist. I'm still sad. Please, help me understand what's going on with me...

Try and remain calm. I know it's hard. Why don't you try seeing a doctor? maybe they could help you. Try doing things that used to make you happy, or bring you joy. Try to find someone new to put your trust in, find another friend. Best of luck!

I'm sorry you're hurting. You must be tired. Don't worry. You can pull through it.

1. Can you find a new therapist?

2. Can you find a psychiatrist?

3. Read "Radical Acceptance" by Tara Brach, especially chapter 4, which discusses what depression is and how to deal with it. The basic idea is to open up to your feelings and experience as a friend, being kind to yourself in what you're going through and patient.

Best of luck. You'll be okay.

I've been seeing a therapist for my depression and at first I felt exactly as you did. I still felt sad, lifeless and I especially hated my body. But I made friends who excepted me for me and helped me every step of the way. I also had great family support. I even started to see a psychiatrist and they started me on anti-depressants and ever since then I've been a lot better, I still have my downs but not as bad. Hang in there, try and find good trustworthy friends and if you have a good family confide in them. If you feel that your therapy is not helping try finding a new therapist and maybe even a psychiatrist.

Best of luck!

Hi Jeslin,

when I was in school I was very shy and had only one friend too. The only problem with having only one, is when they decide to dump you - you feel deserted. That's why I tell my daughter to have several friends - similar to the saying "don't put all your eggs in one basket".

Social anxiety, shyness, and low self esteem - they are all managalble. I bet your best friend gave you alot of emotional support, so that's why you're feeling lost. It's okay to get support from friends, but you have to have a strong inner core of support for yourself -self esteem. Let's start with the way you feel about your weight. Bottom line is - if you want to loose weight you have to eat healthy and moderately exercise and you have to keep with it. Cut out most of the junk foods and pop. I find weight lifting is the fastest way to make changes in your body. Try not to spend too much time on the computer, video games or TV - because you're just sitting.

If there's no hope in reconciling with this friend then try to make a new one. Maybe you can join some clubs at school. Your body is telling you that you need to make changes in your life. Maybe you need to try a new therapist.

Keep trying and do whatever it takes to feel better. Take care.

Could you try a new therapist?
